Lasbela, Pakistan, hosts a Sports Festival

The Inter-School & College sports festival was organized in Lasbela district of Balochistan through the joint efforts of the District Sports Department and the District Education Department of Lasbela with the corporation of the provincial government.

The 3-day long festival was held between 15th-17th of September and brought together 700 girls and boys from different schools and colleges for an action packed event. The competition included Cricket, Football, Badminton, 200-meter race and long jump, and was thoroughly enjoyed by the students.

The theme of the day was “Say No to Drugs” and different speakers shared their views on how sports can be used as the tool to prevent youth from drugs and violent behavior. Local community members and civil society really appreciated the festival and expressed their desire to have more sport-based events to engage young people in positive activities. Speaking at the event was Task Force member and Executive Director of the Welfare Association for New Generation (WANG), Mr. Qaisar Roonjha, who said "sport plays a significant role as a promoter of social cohesion. If we keep engaging young people in Lasbela in such activties they can contribute in a better way to drug free society."
